This is the new version of the Agility Guide, rewritten by Ploow, and I combined it in the Stingy lay-out and made some small changes. A lot of pictures still have to be added, but the info is there.

1. Why train agility?
The Agility skill allows you to go across Runescape easier and faster.
Upon gaining levels it will allow you to run more in overall
and it will unlock several useful shortcuts which will help you in
many ways, ranging from money-making, to questing, to skilling.
2. Run energy restoration
Agility makes your run energy restore faster.
The time taken to restore 0-100% run energy:
Level 1 Agility | Level 99 Agility
Walking/Standing | 3 minutes 50 seconds | 1 minute 30 seconds
Resting | 36 seconds | 24 seconds
Listening to musicians | 26 seconds | 14 seconds |
This may not seem worth it by looking at these numbers, however you will find out that your run energy is drained A LOT slower at a higher Agility level.
You can run A LOT longer distances and need less time to recharge your run again.
3. Method for 1-99 Agility
A short summary of how you can train agility the best:
Lvl 1-35 Gnome Stronghold Agility Course
- Lvl 25-40 Skullball (Alternative)
Lvl 35-60 Barbarian Outpost Agility Course
- Lvl 40-52 Agility Pyramid (Alternative)
Lvl 52-60 Wilderness Course
- Lvl 40-60 Brimhaven Agility Arena (Alternative)
Lvl 60-85 Ape Atoll Course
- Lvl 60-65 Werewolf Course (Alternative)
- Lvl 80-85 Dorgesh-Kaan Course (Alternative)
Lvl 85-99 Advanced Gnome Stronghold Course
- Lvl 93-99 Advanced Barbarian Outpost Course (Alternative)
As you can see there are several courses to go to, to get your Agility level up. Main information and training tips about these courses can be found further in this guide. Or you could consult the specific guides we have on each course.
Important tips
While you are training agility, you must at all times:
- Bring no armour! Except for weight decreasing gear.(boots of lightness, penance gloves, spotted/spottier cape, Agile top and Agile legs) Note that even though -36kg is the minimum, it does NOT affect your run energy any different then 0kg would.
(More about these weight decreasing items later in the guide.) - Ever since the rest update, energy restoring items are no longer needed to train agility, at higher levels you will now rarely drop below 90% energy.
- Cakes are the best food for agility because they don't weight much and allow you to stay around a constant health because they heal 4 per bite.
- If you are failing a lot on a certain course, it's useful to take Agility potions (temporary raises agility level by 3 per dose) or summer pies (temporary raises agility level by 5 per bite and restores 10% energy aswell as 11 hp!)
- Try training with friends! This will make the running a lot more pleasant and time will pass faster. (Race each other or play games like tag.)
- Keep your hitpoints between 20-30 while training on a failable course. This will reduce the damage per fall and will therefore cost less food!!!
- Try to train a course without changing your screen angle, this doesn't work for all courses but if you can train courses with a static screen it is a lot easier from most peoples experience.

Gnome Stronghold Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 1 Agility
This course is a great one to start with, no failure and a decent amount of Xp an hour.
You can completely focus on running the laps and you don't have to watch your health, after finishing a lap in the right order, you'll even get a nice bonus.
The Xp rate for this course is around 6k Xp per hour.
This will get you 35 Agility in about 4 hours from level 1.
Advanced
Minimum level: Level 85 Agility
Recommended level: Level 85 Agility
A great course to finish your Agility journey, and for the final steps until 99. You won't fail anymore after level 89 Agility.
Just like the lower level course, the purpose of this course is to complete a full lap
in order to get an Xp bonus in the end, however you will now be taking a slightly different route than the low level route.
After climbing the branches twice, you will discover a third branch on the spot west of you to take you to the top level. Here you can do the wall run over the sign, followed by swinging the poles and ending by jumping inside the pipe.
The Xp rate for this course is around 60k Xp per hour, with a max. of 65k!!
On this course you can either:
- Get 90 agility for the Advanced Barbarian Outpost Agility Course.
This takes around 34 hours from level 85. - Get 99 agility if you prefer to train here.
This takes around 163 hours from level 85.

Tips
The Tree Gnome Village and The Grand Tree (25 Agility needed)
quests are highly recommended to get to this course.
Brimhaven Agility Arena
Minimum level: Level 1 Agility
Recommended level: Level 40 Agility
One of the best known courses in the game. Very popular among the medium and sub-high Agility levels.
Fun to do and lots of interacting with fellow agilityzers. At level 40 Agility you can now take all obstacles here, though you will fail quite a bit and when hit by the poisonous darts, your agility level temporary lowers by 2.
The point of this arena is, when you enter you must tag the first pillar
with the flashing arrow above it. For every additional next pillar
you can tag in a row, you will get 1 agility ticket. The flashing arrow will
move to the next pillar after 1 minute. (so the max. tickets per hour is 60)
Note that randoms will teleport you, it may cause you to miss
the next pillar, you will have to tag another pillar to start again,
however you will still keep your tickets if you miss one.
Only trade in tickets in amounts of 100's and 1000's!
If you trade your tickets before that you will get a lot less Xp per ticket.
Number of Tickets | Reward |
1 | 240 Xp (per ticket) |
3 | 1 x Toadflax herb |
10 | 1 x Snapdragon herb |
10 | 2480 Xp (248 per ticket) |
25 | 6500 Xp (260 per ticket) |
100 | 28000 Xp (280 per ticket) |
800 | Pirate's Hook (decorative) |
1000 | 320k Xp (320 per ticket) |
Wearing Karamja Gloves 2 or 3 from the Achievement Diaries while trading tickets will increase the Xp rewards,
and you will receive a 10% Xp bonus at every obstacle you take in the arena.
It's best to do one of these options to continue training after Brimhaven:
This requires about 300 tickets which takes around 5 hours from level 40.
This requires about 750 tickets which takes around 13 hours from level 40.
This requires about 1k tickets which takes around 17 hours from level 40.

Tips
It is recommended to take Karamja gloves 2 or 3 from the Karamja achievement diary. Karamja gloves 2 will boost the Xp gained per obstacle and per ticket traded which speeds up training nicely. Karamja gloves 3 give you free entrance cost to the arena aswell as the Xp bonuses of gloves 2. Completing the Rocking Out quest also gives you a free entrance reward for the arena. You may find this course very frustrating, especially when you miss a ticket or fail often on a certain obstacle. Try to stay positive and get the hang of it. Try to avoid the poisonous darts as much as you can (so don't take them unless you have to take a detour which causes you to miss the ticket)Agility potions/ summer pies are highly recommended here!
Werewolf Skullball
Minimum level: Level 25 Agility
Recommended level: Level 25 Agility (not sure, confirmation please)
The Creature of Frenkenstein Quest has to be done in order to have access to this fun Agility Course.
You must also wear the Ring of Charos to get in (obtained from the quest).
Not many people know this course, but it can be quite fun. The faster you are, the more Xp you get.
Agility Pyramid
Minimum level: Level 30 Agility
Recommended level: Level 30 Agility
Purpose of this minigame is to get to the top as fast as you can and get the golden pyramid off it.
You must have started the Icthlarin's Little Helper quest to have access to this course. But having completed the
Contact! quest is recommended to, so you will have access to the bank of Sophanem. You can start and end the course by talking to Simon Templeton.
Rreaching the top where you can take off the golden pyramid is your main objective. You can exchange the golden artefact with Simon Templeton for 1k gp each.
Penguin Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 30 Agility
Recommended level: Level 30 Agility
You must complete the Cold War quest in order to have access to this penguin army training course.
You will also need a Penguin Disguise, this can be obtained during the quest.
Barbarian Outpost Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 35 Agility
You must have finished the Barcrawl miniquest in order to be able to access this course. This is the course where the barbarian train themselves. It is possible to fail here so bring cakes.
The Xp rate at this course is around 14k Xp per hour.
This should get you 40 agility in only 1 hour from level 35.
Advanced
Minimum level: Level 90 Agility
Recommended level: Level 90 Agility
The highest level course in RuneScape, experience-wise almost the same as the Gnome Stronghold Advanced Agility Course. At this course you won't fail anymore after level 94 Agility. Excellent course to go for 99 Agility.
After walking the log across the water, you will discover a part of the southern wall you can use to jump on the building. Here you can climb up one more level, followed by the hilarious firing device, after which you perform a cartwheel over a pole and jump the gap, to finish with a stylish roofslide.
The Xp rate for this course is around 63k Xp per hour, with a max. of 68k!!
If you have chosen this course to get 99 agility,
doing so will take you 122 hours from level 90.

Tips
Practice on maximizing your Xp per hour here without moving your screen angle,
seeing as you will run here for a long time you will save some time by doing so.
If you are having difficulties with the Grimhand Barcrawl
Miniquest, use a guide.
Ape Atoll Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 48 Agility
Recommended level: Level 60 Agility
You must have done the Monkey Madness quest to have access to this course. Having completed the Awowogei part in Recipe for Disaster is an advantage too.
You will unlock the Ape Atoll teleport. This course is one of the most recommended courses for training until 99.
It's good Xp and rather fun to do in larger (monkey) communities.
You won;t fail any obstacle anymore after 75 Agility, making it a perfect course to train at.
The purpose of this course is to simply complete a full lap,
this course does not give an Xp bonus. (however still 580 Xp per lap)
The Xp rate for this course is around 45-50k Xp per hour (a bit more or
less depending on your level), with a max. of 54k.
It's best to do one of these options to continue training after the Ape Atoll course:
- Get 85 agility for the Advanced Gnome Stronghold Agility Course.
This takes around 55 hours from level 65 or 50 hours from level 70. - Get 90 agility for the Advanced Barbarian Outpost Agility Course.
This takes around 105 hours from level 65 or 100 hours from level 70. - Or if you prefer to train here, you can get 99 agility in 240-270 hours from level 70 (time depending on your speed.)
At level 80 you may want to switch to the Dorgesh-Kaan Agility course, however this is completely up to own preference. The Dorgesh-Kaan course is only slightly faster after 80 agility, but you will have to get used to a completely new course which is again failable and you will only need it for a very short time (until 85 for the advanced gnome course).
Upsides:
Very easy access through the Ape Atoll teleport spell.
Free food grows next to the course, take a knife to cut these pineapples
(heals 2 per ring, 8 in total)
You can't fail after level 75, this means food is no longer needed!
No random events while in monkey form. (so no slowing you down)
You get to be a monkey?!?
Downsides:
Getting the ninja monkey greegree seems annoying to a lot of people,
however this only takes 10 minutes if you know how.
Read a Monkey Madness quest guide if you don't remember how to make a monkey greegree.

The knife is used to cut pineapples for food (no longer needed after 70 agility).
You may aswell want to bring cakes as additional food.

Tips
The Awowogei Recipe for Disaster subquest is highly recommended
as it unlocks the Ape Atoll Teleport spell (64 magic needed).
Try running this course as fast as you can, it is easy to learn to get
nearly the maximum Xp per hour here (54k).
If you have difficulties to click on the swinging rope, try to keep your screen angle all the way up while facing northeast/northwest or just north. After the skullslope, click on the minimap to approach the swinging rope. Click the higher part of the rope once it appears in your screen. While you are swinging the rope, click on the tree to the long vine already, so you spare some time each lap by taking it in one go.
Wilderness Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 52 Agility
Recommended level: Level 52 Agility
This course used to be quite popular because of it's low failure rate. Sadly since the removal of the Wilderness it's popularity has decreased dramatically.
Yet it's still good Xp for your training until 60-65 Agility. And it's great while using PvP Agility Brawling Gloves.
Upsides:
You fail less than at most courses.
You can have a spirit terrorbird summoned while running here.
Downsides:
Revanants are the biggest problem here, since you are
in the level 54 wilderness, revenants from nearly any level can attack you!
The Xp rate for this course is around 37k Xp per hour. (a bit more or less depending on your level)
It's best to do one of these options to continue training after the wilderness course:
- Get 60 agility for the Bandos Throne Room Agility Course.
- Get 65 agility for the Ape Atoll Agility Course.
This takes around 9 hours from level 52.
Or 70 agility in about 16-17 hours.
This takes around 4 hours from level 52.

Werewolf Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 60 Agility
Recommended level: Level 60 Agility
The Creature of Frenkenstein Quest has to be done in order to have access to this fun Agility Course.
You must also wear the Ring of Charos to get in (obtained from the quest).
This course can be found in the same dungeon as the Skullball course.
You must fetch a stick and give it to the wereworlf at the end of the course
Bandos'Throne Room Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 60 Agility, Ranged and Strength
Recommended level: 60 Agility
You must have completed The Chosen Commander quest in order to be able to run at this course, this quest is the last part in the Dorgeshuun series. This course is only accessible with a Bandos throne room sphere, which can be purchased at Oldak in Dorgesh-Kaan. This course is good for going from 60 to 70 Agility, the laps are pretty short.
This course will give you 380 Agility and 125 Strength
and Ranged Xp per completed lap.
The Xp rate for this course is around 37k agility Xp per
hour, and around 11k strength and ranged Xp.
(a bit more or less depending on agility level)
Upsides:
The additional strength and ranged Xp while training!
Very few energy used compared to the other courses.
Downsides:
You have to click constantly and must focus 100% at all times to
run at this course. This will make you unable to do other things
or even chat at all without slowing you down a lot.
4 Quests must be completed in order to train here.
To continue training after the wilderness course you should get 65 agility for the Ape Atoll Agility Course. This takes around 5 hours from level 60. (with an additional 57,8k strength and ranged Xp) Or 70 agility in about 13-14 hours from level 60. (with 152,5k strength and ranged Xp).

Mithril grapple and a crossbow (mithril+) MUST be wielded
to complete this course.
How to get there
There are only 2 ways to get to this course. It's best to use a Bandos
Throne Room sphere. You can buy these at Oldak for 2 law runes and
1 molten glass each. Oldak is located in the north-west of Dorgesh-Kaan.
The second way to reach the course is by using the Fairy Ring Code BLQ
which will take you to Yu'biusk. Here you will find that you can use the
chest through which Zanik found her way to the throne room.
Dorgesh-Kaan Agility Course
Minimum level: Level 80 Agility
Recommended level: Level 80 Agility
The Death to the Dorgeshuun quest has to be completed to have access to this course. This course is also a popular choice among the
sub-higher levels for their levels until 85, in case Ape Atoll gets a bit boring. It's also easy to be done in larger, friendly communities and the Xp rate is pretty much the same as on Ape Atoll (a little higher). At this course you won't stop failing, although fail rate will decrease when your level gets higher, and it isn't too high.
For more specific information on courses, consult the special guides for them here on Stingy

Agility Gear
To help you in your agility training, there are several items to decrease your weight and even one to increase your experience!
Agility Weight Reduction Gear
Check out this guide for all information about weight reducing gear.
Agility Brawling gloves
Brawling Gloves are gloves that you might receive as a drop while fighting on PVP Worlds.
Brawling gloves have the ability to boost the experience you receive for a certain skill.
These gloves don't last forever and they will disintegrate after 2 hours of time that you have trained the skill.
You can only use the Gloves' abilities on PVP Worlds. While training a skill with the for that skill specific brawling gloves, your experience will be multiplied by 1,5.
And when you train that skill in the Wilderness the experience you receive will even be quadrupled (multiplied by 4).
More about this in the Wilderness Course Guide.
FAQ
Does Agility make a difference on f2p worlds?
No, your Agility level will no longer affect your run energy recovery speed in f2p.
If I don't have the required level, can I use an Agility potion/Summer pie to use the shortcuts/courses?
Some Agility shortcuts allow the use of these to let you pass. This doesn't count for all the shortcuts and doesn't work for most agility training courses.
I get more/less Xp per hour than the amounts in your guide!
If you get more Xp, this is ofcourse possible. Most of the Xp rates in this guide are average rates, because few people will run at the max speed all the time. If you get less Xp, it means either you are slacking too much, or you can be a slower runner and need to focus more to get more Xp. Once you get to know a course better the running will be faster.
I hate agility but really want to get it up?
Stop complaining, stop being a slacker and get to training.Going with friends helps passing time faster and willgive you both company and support :) You could also run with an Agility team, W46 All Terrain Agility Team for example.
How long does it take to get xx to xx agility?
Substract the Xp from the level you need from your current Xp. Divide this number by the average Xp per hour of the course your going to be using and you have about the time in hours it takes.
